“Matlock Milky Way”
Each time I have passed by this old tree I marveled at its odd shape. One day I realized that facing south I would be able to photograph it with the Milky Way in the Background. Although western Washington has a lot of light pollution and prevents Milky Way photography in most instances. This tree and this location were perfect.
"The Old Milwaukee Trestle Under the Stars"
Rosalia, Washington
“Mt Rainier Under the Stars"
Mt Rainier is the most majestic Mountain in the Cascade Range. It is often photographed in the daytime, but is also spectacular under the stars as well."
"A star lit night at the John Wayne Bridge"
This bridge was once used by the mighty Milwaukee Railroad for trains crossing the country. Now it’s a walking trail. It seemed to me a great place to photograph the stars in all their majesty.
"Oakland Bay Super Moon"
The full moon during the month of May, 2012, was called a super moon because it came about 15000 miles closer to Earth than usual. In anticipation of this event I watched the moon rise that night from the Shelton waterfront. The Old Man in the Moon was at his grandest at that moment.
“The Lonely Tree Under the Milky Way”
The Palouse Country lends itself to stargazing. On this July night my grandson and I found ourselves in a wheat field under the stars. The only feature nearby was this lonely old tree. This image demonstrates how utter simplicity can be so dramatic
"Abandoned Grain Terminal near Endicott, WA"
This old grain terminal saw many years of use by local farmers. Now abandoned and in disrepair it reminds us of days gone by before the farming sophistication we see today.
“Matlock Milky Way Too”
Each time I have passed by this old tree I marveled at its odd shape. One day I realized that facing south I would be able to photograph it with the Milky Way in the Background. Although western Washington has a lot of light pollution and prevents Milky Way photography in most instances. This tree and this location were perfect. This images differs from the first in this series in that I light painted the tree. It's hard to decide which is the better image.
"Satus Creek Mansion"
This old abandoned home was probably a farmers mansion in its day. Now, adjacent to a wildlife refuge in Yakima County, this old home stands proudly under the stars memorializing the yesteryear farming community of the lower Yakima Valley .
